“Don’t Believe The Hype”

Greetings! Here we are again meeting between the pages of SGIB Magazine. So much has happened since we last chatted. I owe and oh boy, do I owe! And those of you I do, don’t worry, I will get that check in the mail. I’m feeling this is my year. As you know by now, on the cover of this issue it reads, “Supporters-$3.75” “Non-Supporters Free.” This will allow Youth Organizations, Businesses and any entrepreneurial-minded individual to use SGIB as a fundraiser or for income revenue. If someone is selling this to you, be a Supporter and buy SGIB and if you just want to read up on toady’s exciting new music magazine, SGIB, be my guest. Hopefully, it will make a supporter out of you.
First, I want to send out a big SGIB Magazine love hug to our September, 2003 cover artist, Ms. Gloria Velez. She ended up on the front page of the April 13, 2004 New York Post, due to we pray, circumstances beyond her control. Good luck (to all), baby. We are here if you ever want to talk. Oh, … Photo by Gerard… hmmmmm.

As you know by now, Lloyd Bank$ & Young Buck are featured in this issue. What you do not know is between all the hype about rap music and the negative influence it has on the youth that after meeting and talking with these two mega-moment superstars in the rap game, I walked away with the feeling that if this is what rap music will produce I say, bring on more! Lloyd Bank$ & Young Buck are two of the most grounded individuals I have ever met to date in the world of rap music. They have a very clear vision on what they are doing, where they want to go, their eye’s are wide open and they have been taking notes along the way from those around them. They are very articulate, very sincere, open and most importantly, they understand the value of teamwork and helping others to achieve their dreams. I predict that after it’s all said and done, they will be remembered from not what they have done out front but as a beacon from behind the scenes, helping others. These two high school dropouts have done very well and know that everyone can’t do the same or fulfill their dreams like they did. I would never advocate dropping out of school no matter what… I suffer everyday from my “lack of skills”. But, can you blame someone like Sebastian Telfair passing on college to enter the 2004 NBA draft and become a millionaire without college? Everyone has to do what they have to do to get where they want to be in life. The trick is not to get stuck along the way and at the end of the day, it’s about being able to take care of your own!
P.S. I hope I did not destroy their careers by looking behind the hype!

On a personal note, I have to say the following. We are under siege in this country by the “lack of bad service.” People no longer want you to walk away with a smile but rather you just walk away… oh, don’t forget the tip! I have become so upset at the service I receive. In restaurants from food handlers with attitudes or asking a cabdriver to roll down the back window in a cab because of the heat. Only until the driver with a smile turns on the air conditioner and he has all the vents pointing at him. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I took my automobile to Ford Motor Company, who mind you, I have given 98% of all repairs to for the past two years, charged me nearly $150.00 for an estimate. Enough is enough! Stay tuned to this one…. I’m going to put my “Pre-Paid Lawyer” to the test!
Peace out………..
