Metroplaza Pharmacy’s 2004 “Black History Month Community Collage Mural” of Roosevelt and Uniondale, was unveiled on February 25, 2004 at the African-American Museum in Hempstead. The collage is a combination of photographs that were donated by Ms. Elizabeth Watson, President of the “55 Plus Club” of the Memorial Presbyterian Church; Ms. Clara Gillens-Eromosele of Roosevelt, “Weed and Seed” Coordinator; Ms. Sharon Kearse of the Roosevelt Retirement Center, David Braxton, Program Coordinator of the Roosevelt Youth Program and a two-day photography shoot walk-through of businesses and residences taken by Free-lance Publicity Photographer and Creator of the mural, Gerard McLeod.
“The collage is a wonderful representation of our community of its past and present growth, stated Councilwoman, Ms. Dorothy L. Gobs from the Town of Hempstead. Mrs. Irene Edemaka, the owner of Metroplaza Pharmacy and the founder of the “Youth Scholarship Award Program” made it all happen. “I believe it is time that the business owners and the residents of Roosevelt and Uniondale did something positive for our community. We can do more.” It is our hope that the collage mural will travel throughout the county for all to see. . Awards were presented to Mrs. Irene Edemeka, owner of the Metroplaza Pharmacy and Mr. Gerard McLeod, owner of P.B.G.’S Production’s/SGIB magazine by Ms. Kate Murray, Town Supervisor of Hempstead. Certificates of Recognition, along with special citations were awarded by Ms. Theresa E. Sanders, President and CEO of The Urban League of Long Island. You can see the Mural being displayed at the Metroplaza Pharmacy located at 330 Nassau Road in Roosevelt, NY, beginning on March 8th through the 31st. I., was held on February 13th and the 25th, at the African-American Museum in Hempstead, along with P.B.G’s Production’s/Photo’s by Gerard & Strong G Island Biz (SGIB) Magazine, owner Gerard McLeod, Coordinator & Creator of the Community Collage Mural.
