GENERAL J.E.B. STUART

Most likely, only Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson rank higher in popularity than James Ewell Brown Stuart. This legendary cavalry leader is one of the most beloved of Civil War heroes. A Virginian and Westpoint graduate, he served as colonel of the 1st Virginia Cavalry at First Bull Run and was made brigadier general soon thereafter. In 1862 Stuart was asked by his new army commander, Robert E. Lee to ride and determine the Federal's right flank location. With more than a thousand horseman he quickly secured the information his commander required. Instead of making his way back to Richmond, he took a three day adventure around the Federal soldiers of the Army of the Potomac. Later called the "Ride around McClellan" would be a major emabarrassment to the Federals and would secure the dominance of the southern cavalry and raise Stuart to legendary status.

ARTIST COMMENTS

I must admit that of the four portraits so far that this one is my favorite. It is visually stunning, not because of the art work on it, but because of the pose that was chosen, I love this picture of JEB, just looking at it you start to notice little things, like his eyes, even though the portrait is done in pencil, you can tell they're blue, they pierce right through you. His folds in his jacket and shadows cast from his beard on his right shoulder, his left arm holding his sword, this portrait will keep your eyes busy and thats what I love about it, I literally cannot get tired of looking at it. If I had the actual photograph hanging on my wall, I'm sure it would be the same. This portrait is in two sizes and styles. 16"x20" sized image and limited to only 500ea. signed and numbered. 20"x24" sized image on 90lb. Arches Watercolor Paper limited to only 100ea. signed and numbered.
