A word about ads: Like any entrepreneurial type, I'd love to turn a profit from something I really enjoy. For now, I have decided not to accept paid advertisements. If I pitch a product here, it is something I have examined and tested and deem it beneficial to our readers.

Steve Kahn of Banning, California asks this about measures…
“Can either or both of your tapes be made as part of a can or cylinder that is placed over the pallina? This way the base of the tape stays in a constant position relative to the equator of the pallina when it is rotated to measure the relative distances of the balls in question.”
{Someone has devised just such a device (Mike Paccione of Cresskill, New Jersey). Check out The Resolver at http://bocceresolver.com. - or click the image to the right}

Anna M. Mastroianni is promoting bocce in Canada…
“I do enjoy the sport bocce, as an observer ONLY!!! My role with my dad's business is more on the growth of BOCCE in Canada, we have just formed a non-profit organization called "Concord Bocciafila." This organization is for the advancement of Bocce in Canada. I, along with the club members have been doing TV interviews, locally in Toronto to promote bocce and to obtain sponsorship. We are also looking to the Olympic committee of Canada to promote the importance of the sport. Please if there is anything you would like to share about what we are doing here, we would much appreciate your input!!”
{Anything anyone does to promote bocce is good for all of us – good luck and keep up the good work.}

Old bocce friend Peter Ferris of Coweta, Oklahoma received this question and passed it on to me…
“Last summer my brother brought over these bocci balls that had batteries and lights in them so that you can play in the dark. The pallino had a flashing strobe light and the rest of the balls had their respective colors... I was wondering if you would know anything about them, or where I can order."
{Yes, I received a set those lighted bocce balls a while back, and yes, they are pretty fragile. They were ordered from a Hammacher Schlemmer catalog from 1998 ($49.95). The box says "Recommended for ages 3 -103+. The manufacturer was listed as Knight Sports, 8220 Gage Blvd., #745, Kennewick, WA 99336 and they called the game Skizzo (has its own rules, but they also listed bocce rules).
I’ve also seen advertised bocce sets that glow under a black light for night play. Do readers have any experience with these? Please REPLY.}

Lori Bailey of Special Olympics Delaware writes…
“I was wondering if you could help our athletes by directing me to any groups or organizations who are interested in promoting the sport of bocce through grants for equipment. We have many athletes and programs interested in being involved in the sport, but indoor training facilities are difficult for us to find because of the need to set up a court with carpet or another surface material, in a space large enough. We have found the Ultimax soft bocce set and are interested in acquiring this equipment for some of our programs so that they can play on hard floor surfaces. The cost of this equipment is prohibitive for us at this time. I appreciate any help or direction you can provide - Thank you.”
{Can any reader help with this? Bocce is the fastest growing sport in Special Olympics because anyone who can roll a ball can play. Also, as SO athletes age and are less able to participate in more rigorous events, they turn to bocce.
Below is Lori’s title and address/info if you want to deal directly with her – but keep me posted too so I can get the word out here}
