Important info from Volo Superstar Benji Tosi (USBF Populous Director, Western Sector) re: preparing for the World Championships in Volo play...
"As we all know, it is a world championship year and the men's 34th World Bocce Championships in Feltre, Italy, September 4th-11th, 2011 will occur in less than 9 months!
The results of the 2011 US National Bocce Championships at Campo di Bocce Livermore in June will determine the Men's US National Bocce Team, to compete at these 2011 World Bocce Championships in Feltre.
In preparation for the US Volo Nationals at Campo di Bocce Livermore, there are 5 preliminary tournaments on the USBF Western Sector Calendar. These tournaments will only feature the events of Singles, Combination, and Precision Throw; which are the three individual events to be held at the US Nationals in Livermore.
Please see the following link and send it to your bocce friends to get complete information, such as rules and entry forms for the tournaments. All the listed tournaments are for men and women.

"I came to your book signing in Lawrence at the Sons of Italy just before Christmas. At that time I mentioned that my cousin John who is special needs lives in Queens NY and loves the game of Bocce! He plays at Cunningham Park. His life is lonely without the game in the winter months. I understand that he is a very good competitor!
At the time you mentioned you may be able to help me find an indoor place for John to play Bocce in the winter months. Is this still a possibility?"
P.S. John loved your book and especially the Bocce Hat!! He has only had one Bocce hat in life and he said it was in horrible condition. These two things made his Christmas the BEST EVER!!!"

"Unfortunately, there are no indoor venues local to John that I am aware of other than a couple of bars in Brooklyn NY: Floyd and Union Hall.
He lives in Queens and plays at Cunningham Park which is very near to me. In fact, I probably met him this summer at a Special Olympics tournament there... I would be happy to contact John and invite him to play in my Special Olympics bocce training program in late summer."}

"I'm anxious to get back to bocce on a more regular basis even if it's on grass. Well, I'll need to wait a few months for grass to sprout here in Indiana but it will happen.
I got hooked on bocce ball at Campo di Bocce in Los Gatos, CA when I was working in San Jose. Although not a stellar player, I'm enthusiastic!"

I also have been talking to Tom McNutt of Boccemon about the idea of a thematic resort tournament showcasing the bocce courts on either Lummi Island or in Roche Harbor in the San Juans. Oh, I 'forgot' - there's all that great food, lodging and scenery, too! Nothing has been set, it's just a 'wish list' item right now.
Local bocce club, tournament and event directors, please do what Sal Cascone has done for the Auburn Bocce Club - provide me dates for your 2011 events as soon as you can do so! I'll post them to a calendar and promptly let everyone on this know of them, so that we all know about major Puget Sound Bocce events this year."
