Relationship 'Love' & Romance Addiction

Like sex addiction, Relationship & romance addiction are real human behaviors that are obsessive and/or compulsive acting-out behaviors that interfere with a person's quality of life and/or can be destructive.


The following questions can be used as guidelines to identifying possible signs of love and/or romance addiction. The following is not a "definitive" diagnosis, as many people have a wide variety of answering the questions and acting-out the behaviors.


As with sex addiction, relationship 'love' and/or romance addiction is a process addiction which means one becomes addicted to their own chemicals. These chemicals are morphine-like substances manufactured in the brain called endorphines and enkeflins. When people are in the cycle of 'acting out' these behaviors, these chemicals are released which medicates emotional pain and/or decreases stress.
