Greetings,
We would like to welcome you and thank you for expressing an interest in reviewing our archives articles from our quarterly newsletter The Patients’ Voice formally One Voice. These articles have been carefully researched and documented over the last seven years. The format was set up in this manner so you could do further research if you so choose. As you read through the pages please look for consistent patterns that are interwoven between the different articles. Look for trends – subtle little changes in which access to alternative care providers and natural medicine is gradually being narrowed. Some of these changes occurred so gradually what we now deem as normal we wouldn’t have accepted in the not so distant past.
Leanne Wylet and Helen Lawler have been following and documenting these changes over the last seven years. Here are some suggested questions you may want to ask yourself:
1. How responsive are legislators now in comparison to previous years/decades?
2. Are the citizens voices heard when they express support for or against proposed legislation?
3. Do decisions by the FDA, NNFA, Institute of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, etc. more often benefit consumers or pharmaceutical companies?
4. Are board members and employees of these agencies also board members or present or past employees of pharmaceutical or chemical companies?
5. How will such treaties as GATT and NAFTA
effect our access?
6. What direction are they leading us?
7. What influence will the European Union, Codex and other international bodies have on our national sovereignty and our continued access to natural medicine?
Please feel free to list other questions that come to mind as you read through these articles. We welcome your comments and questions.
Yours in good health,
Leanne Wylet, President, Consultant
Helen Lawler, Editor
P.S. Please check back periodically for the latest "The Patients' Voice, quarterly issue of articles. Plus, archived articles will continue to be downloaded until the fall of 1997 is here also for your review.
You comments and questions are welcomed.

OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
The House Commerce Subcommitte on Ovesight and Investigations has authority to monitor federal agencies. Please contact Congressman Dan Burton, Chairman, US Government Reform andOversight committee, Washington DC 20510: email in care of Milt: Copulos@mailhouse.gov; Fax: 202-226-2369: or Capitol Switchboard 1-800-355-4949.
Ask them to require the FDA to Comply with the amendment of the FDA Reform Law which exludes dietary supplements from harmonization with international laws.Ask them to formally withdraw proposal for rigid limits on food supplements from CODEX.
Update 8-19-2003: The FDA is still out of compliance with US law. Access to dietary supplements has now gone global. Unless the Alliance of Natural Health in the United Kingdom gets enough funding to stop the European Vitamin law from going in effect by about mid september dietary supplements will be under pharmacudical control.
Please click on Oversight Committee title and go to International Advocates for Health Freedom for more details and to PfAM's legislative alert section and what you can do to help stop this. Thank you!

MARKETING TIP FOR DOCTORS
BY Leanne Wylet, B.A.
While the new year is still new, take a a couple minutes to review last years appointment book. Was your schedule full of patient visits or did you have to much down time? This an excellent opportunity to evaluate your practice. Here are some factors to consider:
How many times did the average patient see me last year?
Were those visits for follow-up from a previous diagnosis or a new condition?
Did I sufficiently educate and empower them with enough information/materials to work with their bodies condition and healing process?
Did they see another health care provider for services I could have provided?
Patients are one of you, the doctors greatest assets. It is important to periodically evaluate whether or not your services are continuing to meet your patients needs. This is more true than ever before because we are living in an highly competitive health care era.
SUPPORT GROUP TIP:
Holiday Blues
Leanne Wylet, B.A.
Excessive busyness and party treats can add to the stress of holiday blues. Too many holiday cookies and too little rest can reduce your body’s resistance to infection. So, to get more enjoyment from the season, prioritize your activities and don’t forget to exercise.
When going to a party, plan your nutritional strategy ahead of time. Skipping meals and going hungry to a dinner party puts nutritional needs at risk. If needed, your ND can provide nutritional counseling as well as diagnosis of your body’s individual needs.
