Our Church History   2004: Our Year of Divine Purpose & Destiny
On March 26, 1995, at 4:00PM in the afternoon, a hearty, though small band of Christian disciples met at 240 Montlieu Avenue, High Point, NC, to discuss the formation of a new ministry and the care of the Pastor. In attendance were former members of Mount Zion Baptist Church, being led by the Spirit, and committed to a ministry that recognized and operated in the Five Fold Ministries from a Pentecostal perspective. This group of (18) eighteen started New Beginnings Full Gospel Ministries. The body then called Pastor Michael A. Ellerbe as their shepherd and First Lady Janice M. Ellerbe.

The first corporate worship of New Beginnings Full Gospel Ministries was held on Sunday, April 2, 1995, with Pastor Ellerbe as the preacher of the morning at Living Waters Baptist Church. Over (25) twenty-five members of New Beginnings accompanied Pastor Ellerbe and worshipped at Living Waters. Pastor Adolph Thomas and the Living Waters Family blessed the New Beginnings Ministry by sowing (500.00) Five Hundred Dollars into the Ministry.

That afternoon, the group met at the home of Bro. Jerry and Sis. Letrice (Sissy) Nance at 1717 Carolina Avenue. The following Deacons were appointed: William & Angela Ellerbe, Napoleon & Sharon Hardison, Carl & Julia McCollum, Rufus & Harriet Newlin, Kenneth & Michelle Taylor. The following officers were appointed: Evangelist Angel Jones (Sunday School Superintendent), Sis. Sharon Williams (Treasurer) and Sis. Sandra Noel (Secretary).

During the week of March 26th - April 2nd, Pastor Ellerbe went about securing a meeting place for this fleeting body of believers. Led by the Holy Spirit, Pastor Ellerbe spoke with Jerry Gilmore of Hargett & Gilmore, requesting the use of their Chapel as a meeting place for the New Beginnings congregation. Hargett & Gilmore graciously opened their doors to us on Sunday, April 9, 1995. New Beginnings Full Gospel Ministries held its first worship service at 1810 Brockett Avenue, High Point, NC. Pastor’s first sermon in our own place of worship was titled “A Kiss To Remember.” Close to (60) sixty men, women, boys, and girls made up the first congregation.

Under the leadership of the Holy Spirit and the direction of our Pastor and Board of Directors, we have made decisions that will allow us to advance the ministry and the kingdom of God. God has instructed Pastor Ellerbe to challenge us to “Rise Up and Build…The Body of Christ” in the year of 2004.

We were challenged to walk in honor, honesty and integrity for the year of 2004 and we answered God in the positive. Since that time, we have seen a great outpouring of God’s Spirit in our lives and in our services.

We held our third Women of Warfare Conference as well as our second Men of Triumph Conference. Our youth were empowered as we hosted several HYPE nights during the summer and our annual Back 2 School Jam in August. Our singles celebrated several workshop sessions and were empowered by great men and women of God.

We experienced some pains during the year also because of the homegoing of Bro. Sylvester Tucker in November, the illness of Sis. Katie Dockery, Mother Spann, Sis. Nancy Eleby and Sis. Betty Curtis. But God has remained faithful and all of these sisters are up and doing well. As we closed out the year, we were told that all of the things that we had endured were preparations for elevation and today we celebrate our new year of moving from church to discipleship.
