Legal investigation agencies are issued a Maryland private detective license (PDL), and legal security guard companies are issued a Maryland Security Guard License (SGL). If you suspect that a security or investigation provider is operating illegally in Maryland, contact M.I.S.A. or the Maryland State Police. Back to TopWhen do I need to hire a private detective?
You may need a private detective for many legal reasons. The most well known use is to prove adultery and/or in custody issues. Private detectives are also an extension of law enforcement in criminal cases where the police may not be able to proceed due to budgetary limitations. P.I.'s also locate deadbeat parents, do adoption searches, pre-employment background investigations, executive protection, assist in locating missing children, corporate investigations, and insurance investigations.
